Shipping is the backbone of global trade, and ports are its joints. A well-run port brings jobs, revenue and access to goods; a poorly planned one can damage the coast it depends on.
Dredging, ballast water, noise and fuel spills are the environmental side of the ledger. Good planning treats them as part of the cost of operating, not as an afterthought.
